Queen Victoria’s gold and amethyst bracelet

Queen Victoria's bracelet, 23 Nov 1839 Royal Collection Trust / © HM King Charles III

This bracelet is Queen Victoria's gold and amethyst bracelet. It was given to Queen as an engagement gift from her mother, The Duchess of Kent, on the day she announced her engagement to Prince Albert to the Privy Council.

The bracelet is made out of gold, which is formed of flat tapering links, engraved with foliate scroll and set with amethyst carved as a double heart. It has been backed with empty glass locket and engraved with 'V' for 'Victoria' and the date, 23 November 1839, which is when the announcement was made.

The bracelet was one of a group of jewels placed in the ‘Albert Room' at Windsor Castle after the Queen's death in 1901. This was the room where Prince Albert had passed away in 1861 and the Queen had left instructions for a specific list of personal jewellery to be placed there and not passed on in the family.
